Fighting the Good Fight

Everyone who has seen me race has seen the pink breast cancer ribbon that I wear over my heart. I started wearing it on my suit after my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer about 3 years ago. She fought through surgery, chemo and radiation and has now been cancer free for over 2 years. I continue to wear the ribbon as a reminder that you can never stop fighting. I wear it to honor all of the men and women who fight and continue to fight against the terrible disease.

Unfortunately, my life was once again touched by cancer this past week. My sister's swim coach at New York University was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at the young age of 32. Now, the previously active and vibrant woman is in a real battle for her life. She is an incredible person who inspires and motivates everyone she meets and coaches. In her honor, I will be adding the blue ribbon for colon cancer to my racing suit this season.

My sister, and all of her teammates, have organized a Relay for Life team and are looking for donations to support the American Cancer Society in honor of Lauren and her fight. Every donation matters and as I struggle to figure out what else I can do to make a difference in this fight against cancer, I figure starting somewhere is better than starting nowhere.

Relay for Life

It's "race day" and we cannot let cancer win!
Keep fighting Lauren! We believe.
