I don't get luggage restrictions...

There is one thing I just don't get... luggage restrictions on airplanes.

I totally understand that they want to limit the baggage we bring with us because it makes the plane heavier and thus uses more fuel to power it. However, I don't get why it matters if I bring 23kgs of weight in my suitcase and 5kgs on with me or if I bring 15kgs in my suitcase and carry the other 13kgs on with me... it is going on the plane one way or another.

I'm currently sitting in the airport en route to London and the woman at the counter made me completely unpack my suitcase, take out a larger backpack that I had put inside of it, and carry that along with about 4kgs worth of my stuff on to the plane instead of allowing me to keep it all neatly packed into my one bag.

It just makes no sense at all. If you are going to limit baggage then just limit total weight and in doing that make sure to weigh the passenger as part of the total allowance, otherwise, just don't bother setting ridiculous restrictions!

I feel you on that one! PLUS, what if the dude that checked in right in front of you, and he checks in zero luggage... shouldn't someone be aloud to take his unused luggage slot?????? :)

I like your comment about weight of passengers...some people would have no allowance for any luggage in that case! Hey was good catching you this weekend safe travels!
