Madrid Update...

For anyone who tuned in, or who saw results, and was wondering...

I crashed hard in lap 1 of the bike. I went on the attack on the descent because the group I was riding with decided to allow a gap to open to the one girl I knew was my ticket to the front of the race. So I took the descent hard, passing everyone on my way to closing the gap, and on the slick and sandy roads both wheels came out from under me and I went down at 35+ mph.

I managed to walk away with some nice rash on my elbows and both hips as well as a growing contusion on my left hip but my hands are completely untouched, miraculously, so it at least allows me to function sort of normally. My race suit is done... it was shredded as it probably took some of the blow and saved some of my legs.

My better hip.

I'm disappointed but took a risk that I had to take in order to be in the race. I'm so proud of myself for being in a mindset where I was willing to go for it. I had a tough swim, but was feeling quite strong on the bike and was focused on going after my top 20 goal. Had I linked up with her, there is a good chance that I may have been within reach of that.

So, thank you for your support! More updates will come soon. For now, I rest!

Hi,

I was wondering what happened.

I'm so bummed you crashed but nothing ventured, nothing gained I suppose.

Glad to hear that you didn't have any serious injuries.

Bless your heart girl. I was still in the hospital w/ my blood clots, so I saw nothing. I am glad you are "ok" and hope that you are able to travel home w/ minimal discomfort.

I am very proud of your courage to push yourself- seeing the opportunity and being aggressive is a great lesson in racing of any kind.

Very proud to be your sponsor!

But take a look at the bright side,at least it wasn't a stupid crash, bad conditions you took the risk. Just bad luck, next time you'll get to the lead group!!
